Pain Management - Physician Support

Attached is a flowchart to assist referring physicians when referring patients for Spinal Procedures: Epidurals; Nerve Root Blocks; Facet Joint Injection

Patients must stop taking blood thinners for 1 to 8 days prior to spine injections, depending on the medication. If your patient's health is at risk by temporarily stopping taking blood thinners, this might be addressed by bridging with low molecular weight heparin at the referring physician's discretion. If this is not possible, then unfortunately the patient is not a candidate for treatment at MedRay.

Blood thinners do not need to be stopped for joint and tendon injections.

Click here for the required prescription by treatment location for joint and tendon injections. MedRay supplies the prescription for all spinal procedures; the patient MUST arrive with a filled prescription for all Joint and Tendon Injections. NOTE: if referring physician wishes to treat the patient with a different agent for joint/tendon injections, then please document on the requisition and the Radiologist will review.
