Ultrasound Exam Preparation

Note: Unattended children are not permitted at MedRay. Please arrange childcare otherwise we are unable to serve you.No photography, videography, or video streaming (such as Zoom or FaceTime) are permitted during the exam.

All examinations are 30 – 60 minutes in duration

Ultrasound Exam Preparation

Breast Ultrasound

On the day of the examination, do not apply deodorant, body powder or other material on your underarms or around the breasts. Wear clothing that can be removed from the waist up, you will be given a gown to wear during the examination.

Abdominal Ultrasound

(including gallbladder, liver, aorta, spleen, pancreas)
Do not eat or drink from 10 pm the night before until completion of the examination

Renal Ultrasound

Finish drinking three 8 oz. (250ml) glasses of fluid (24 oz. / 750 ml total) (except milk or carbonated drink) 1 hour prior to exam. Do not empty your bladder until after the exam. A full bladder is essential. Children 10 years of age should attempt not to empty bladder 1 hr prior to examination

Combined Abdominal & Pelvic Scan

Nothing to eat or drink from 10 pm the night before until completion of the examination plus Follow instructions of pelvic scan

Pelvic or Obstetric Ultrasound

A full bladder is essential. Finish drinking four 8 oz. (250ml) glasses of fluid (32 oz. / 1L total) (except milk or carbonated drink) 1 hour prior to exam. Do not empty your bladder until after the exam. Patients in the last 8 weeks of pregnancy require only 16oz (500 ml) of fluid

Vascular Imaging

No special preparation is needed. Patients must be able to get on and off a stretcher without assistance. Patients must be less than 300 lbs. Patients must NOT have any open wounds near the area of interest

All other scans require no preparation.
